HOW WE GOT STARTED
A legacy of making a difference.
Founder Dr. Sam Toney began his career in private practice in adult psychiatry in the late 1980s. He soon realized he could only see so many patients a day. With growing expertise in integrated medical-behavioral health, he transitioned into population health where he could make a bigger impact.
In 2008, Dr. Toney founded Toney Healthcare Consulting to serve health plans, mainly with physician review services. Gradually, he added like-minded managed care individuals, mostly clinicians, who wanted to make a difference in the healthcare ecosystem and people’s lives, at scale. As Toney Healthcare Consulting grew, it became evident that there were multitudes of clinically-oriented challenges that our team knew how to address, bringing perspectives from across the nation and from many population types. It was clear that there was a need to share our expertise while recognizing the uniqueness of each health plan and their own populations.
Today, Toney Healthcare Consulting is now Toney Healthcare as consulting is only one aspect of what we do. In addition to providing guidance, we also work right alongside health plans to overcome challenges and transform their organization.
